Lux Silk Nourishment Body Wash in Creamy Yogurt, Light Natural Honey and Mediterranean Olive Extracts - Review

The moment I enter any departmental store, I am like a kid in a candy shop. My mother always hopes that I will help her with the groceries and foodstuff but I always betray her and rush over to the skincare counters. It was during one of my recent betryal episodes, I reached out to this beauty. So here's the review :

About the Product :

Intense Loving moisturisation for irresistibly silky skin

Indulge your skin with this gorgeous blend of nourishing Creamy Yogurt, Light Natural Honey and Mediterranean Olive Extracts, blended into this luxurious shower cream, which deeply moisturizes your skin, leaving it with a silky feel. Experience the feeling of irresistibly silky skin everyday.

How to Use :

Pour a little Lux Bodywash onto a wet loofah or onto your hand and apply on skin. Indulge in rich creamy later. Rinse off.

Ingredients :

Water, Myristic Acid, Lauric Acid, Potassium Hydroxide, Sodium Laureth Sulfate, Palmitic Acid, Glycerin, Potassium Chloride, Perfume, Glycol Distearate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose, DMDM Hydantoin, Etidronic Acid, BHT, Tetrasodium EDTA, Yogurt powder, Honey, Olive (Olea Europaea) Oil.

Price and Quantity :

Price: Rs. 80
Quantity: 250ml

I know the picture is crappy but it was taken from my camera phone.
My experience:

The bodywash has a silky texture and has a nice fragrance. It has a good consistency and is not very thick. I was a bit disappointed when I first used this bodywash because Lux's claim for rich creamy lather and irresistibly soft skin fell flat, atleast for me. However, the when taken on hand and lathers well but the lather hardly stays for few seconds and disappears from skin even before I could wash it off. I Love my bodywash to have a bit of staying fragrance, which stays for like an hour or two. After washing away, this Bodywash does'nt leave any fragrance :-(

I have a dry skin and bought this Bodywash solely for using it as a moisturising bodywash, but within an hour after the shower, My skin felt dry and I had to moisturise my skin. If you are looking for a moisturising bodywash, Dove Creme Bodywash is a much better option.

Hits for Lux Silk Nourishment Body Wash :
  • Mild fragrance, though it wears off completely after shower.
  • Price and the quantity.
  • Nice consistency, nor too thick and nor too runny.
  • Does not leave any oily feeling after washing off.

Misses for Lux Silk Nourishment Body Wash :
  • Does not moisturise, atleast for dry skin. Dry skin needs to be moisturised after shower. May work well for normal and oily skin.
  • Very less lather which disappears within few seconds even before washing it off.
  • No lingering fragrance after shower. I like my bodywash to have a fragrance which lingers on for sometime. Personally, for me, I would have loved it even more if the fragrance was a bit strong. (I have a history of liking strong and masculine frangrances and ended up using my Dad's colognes most of the times :-P)
Have you used any Lux Bodywash ??

Patanjali Kesh Kanti Hair Cleanser

Before any more jibber jabber about the hair cleanser, let me introduce you to my hair.

·    Trait 1 - Very thick and dark brown;
  • Trait 2 - Dry, rather very dry and frizzy. I usually use generous amounts of oil in my hair after shampoo to control the frizz.
  • Trait 3 - Lacks any lusture or shine
  • Trait 4 - My hair has a mood of its own and on its bad mood days, no amount of hair creams, styling can bring it back to its normal mood. (sigh sigh) Conditioners and hair creams are futile in controlling the frizziness of my hair and my hair always win against these creams
I don’t get my hair straightened or permed and keep it shoulder length. Blow drying my hair means a hair cut which is accompanied by blow drying usually after every 3 months. In my efforts to get beautiful hair flaunted in hair product commercials, I emptied numerous bottles of shampoos and conditioners of brands like Pantene, L’Oreal and Sunsilk. Whatever effect these products had was short-lived and my hair was back to behaving nasty one day after shampoo.

So while wandering through endless pages of internet, trying to find ways to tame my hair, I read Anamika’s review of Patanjali Kesh Kanti Hair Cleanser. I just couldn’t wait to buy this cleanser and bought this the very next day.

Base material*

Base material includes SLES,  NaOH, CMEA,  Nacl, Cabopol-980 and preservatives include Methyl Paraben and Propyl Paraben,
Uses: Useful in dryness and roughness of hair, prevent hair fall and dandruff and improves hair glow.
Price - Rs 65 for 200 ml

How to use - Wet your hair and apply 3-5 ml of shampoo on your hair. Massage gently all over the scalp for 2 minutes. Then wash with water.

My experience with Patanjali Kesh Kanti Hair Cleanser:

·         It is a natural product manufactured from ayurvedic herbs which are absolutely safe and natural.

·         It has a nice orange fragrance which is very soothing. The orangey fragrance goes away after washing which is definitely good because hair smelling like orange would be a bit weird.

·         Divyayoga’s claim that it makes hair soft, smooth and shiny is definitely true. I could see that my hair was actually soft and smooth just after first wash.

·         I need to wash my hair only once while using this cleanser. When I use other shampoos, i usually have to shampoo my hair twice to feel squeaky clean. I don’t feel the need for a second wash while using this cleanser.

·         I lost lesser hair strands during wash with this cleanser compared to when I would wash my hair with other shampoos.

·         The price is a steal and a bottle lasts for almost 4 months with my shoulder length hair.

·         It is a fantastic product for dry, rough and frizzy hair. I can tell this from personal experience. For the price of Rs. 65, it is worth trying.

What did not work for me :

·         I was a bit disappointed when I bought the shampoo because the packaging was too bad. I love my cosmetics and skin care products which are nicely packed and look good enough to flaunt either on your dresser or in your bag. The packaging can be easily ignored considering the quality of the cleanser.

·         It does contain the harmful SLES and parabens for base material and preservatives.

My Love Affair with Lakme - Part I (Lakme Nine to Five Flawless Makeup )

Wednesday, February 9, 2011

I grew up watching my mother purchase whatever makeup product she ever bought from Lakme. She never wore much makeup and for some grand event, her makeup usually comprised of a foundation and a lipstick, which of course were from Lakme, since most high end brands were not available in India easily during those times. Lakme as a brand has never failed to impress me. I recently started using some makeup and decided to get a decent foundation at an equally decent price. I was looking for a waterproof liquid foundation and my first shot had to be Lakme. A friend recommended Lakme Nine to Five Flawless Makeup which is a liquid foundation and promises to stay on for hours.
So here’s the review:

What Lakme website says about 9 to 5 Range:

Enter the world of high performance make-up with the Nine-to-Five range from Lakme. Once applied, you can look gorgeous, even at the end of the day. Created to give you all day perfection, this revolutionary assortment of cosmetics will make touch-ups a thing of the past. With formulations optimized to suit Indian skin and climatic conditions, the Nine-to-Five range is designed to feel super comfortable and stay on perfectly for hours and hours.

What Lakme website says about Flawless Makeup :
A high performance foundation that keeps you looking flawless through the day; this long lasting formula does not smudge or streak. It has a pump dispenser that avoids messy spills and makes application easy and hygienic, leaving your skin feeling comfortable and supple for hours. Exclusively formulated for daily use, it ensures that your complexion looks its best across the day.
MRP: Rs. 395/-

How to Apply
Step 1: Pump some foundation onto the palm of your hand.
Step 2: Use your middle finger to dot foundation on your face.
Step 3: Lightly blend the foundation in a downward direction from hairline to neckline.

Lakme 9 to 5 Flawless Makeup is available in 4 Shades:
Pearl (For Fair Complexion)
Marble (For Fair to Wheatish Complexion)
Shell (For Wheatish Complexion)

My experience with Lakme Nine to Five Flawless Makeup :
I have a fair skin tone which looks a bit pale at times. I bought Lakme Nine to Five Flawless Makeup in Pearl. It perfectly matches my skin tone and I simply love it for this. It is best applied with fingertips or a sponge. Once applied on skin after proper miniaturisation, it needs to blended quickly to avoid looking dry and cakey.
  • It is waterproof, long lasting and stays on for hours as promised, which are definitely an add on.
  • It is buildable and can easily give a medium to heavy coverage and gives a decent coverage over my dark circles and I don’t need a separate concealer. I have a dry skin and using generous amount of moisturiser and eye cream before applying this foundation.
  • Lakme Nine to Five Flawless Makeup is suitable for all skin types but dry skin needs to be moisturised before application.
  • Lakme Nine to Five Flawless Makeup gives a matte finish.
  • Comes in a pump dispenser makes application very easy.
Flaws in Lakme Nine to Five Flawless Makeup:
  • It gives a matter finish which some may not like.
  • Comes in a glass bottle which is a bit difficult to carry and there is always fear of breaking. I don’t exactly see this as a flaw because almost every foundation comes in glass bottle, but I have a habit of dropping stuff.
  • I have a dry skin and need to moisturise my skin heavily before application.
  • Contains no SPF and you need to separately use a sunscreen.
I don’t think these flaws matter much, considering the quality of the foundation and of course the price. I have repurchased it and using my second bottle already. I was so happy with Lakme Nine to Five range and bought some other products as well. I will be reviewing them separately.

How to make your own concealer

Hey Everyone,

Yesterday I was arranging my makeup stuff, when I noticed that my concealer, was almost finished. So, I decided to innovate and try to make my own concealer. I use oncealer only to hide my dark circles and slight pigmentation around my mouth. I dont have blemishes or scars on my face to need concealer.  I scooped the little bit of foundation that was left in the bottle and mixed it with my Garnier eye cream and mixed both to get an even consistency. Applied it on the area around my eyes and blended with my fingertips. You can also use a good brush for a better application. Set with some loose powder.
Here's a bit more of detail on what I exactly did:
  • Moisturize the skin above and below eyes using a good quality eye cream. I use Garnier's eye cream but  pure almond oil can also be used. In case, you use almond oil, apply almond oil and wipe it off gently using damp cotton after 15-20 minutes. It is necessary to wipe almond oil since it wont allow your eye makeup to set.
  • Take equal amount of foundation and eye cream and mix them quickly on the back of your hand. I was trying it for the first time and kept on mixing for a good 40-50 seconds and ended up with all the eye cream absorbed on my hand.
  • Apply the cream and foundation to the areas that needs coverage and quickly blend it using your fingers, sponge or a brush.
And we are done.  I think that this technique will work only for light to meium coverage and not if you need heavy coverage.
