Vicco Turmeric Skin Cream

Does Vicco Turmeric Ad brings back old childhood memories?? Most of us remember watching this ad numerous times on television during the good old Doordarshan days. I guess most of us had completely forgotten about this advertisement and the cream.Recently, I noticed that developed tiny pimple like bumps on my forehead which refused to go. I googled hoping to find out what these tiny bumps were but ended up reading benefits of Vicco Turmeric Skin Cream. I came across some reviews on mouthshut.com. You can find them here. The skin cream promised to be a ayurvedic medicine, with turmeric as one of its major components. At first, the skin cream was pretty much hard to find, but I finally found it in one of the grocery shops near my home.

Vicco Turmeric Skin Cream is manufactured by VICCO Group, makers of the best internationally known products of the Ayurveda, the ancient Indian system of natural medicine. Visit their website here

What the VICCO Group says Vicco Turmeric Skin cream:

Vicco Turmeric, an ayurvedic medicine, prevents and cures skin infections, inflammation, blemishes, wounds and other skin disorders. It soothes boils, pimples, acne and burns. It nourishes the skin, improves tonal value and makes it fair and beautiful.

Ingredients (Percentage in w/w):

Extract of Turmeric 16%
Sandalwood Oil 0.5%
Excipients :
Stearic Acid 15%,
Sorbitol 3%,
Methyl Paraben Sodium 0.15%,
Propyl Paraben Sodium 0.05%,
Sodium Hydroxide 0.07%,
Water q.s.

Price:  Rs. 45 for a pack of 15g. Also available in bigger pack of 70g for a price of Rs. 155.
I bought the smaller pack to try the cream, as it contains a good amount of turmeric and lately my skin has been showing a bit of sensitivity to turmeric. My skin feels slight burning sensation and turns red whenever I apply turmeric.

The Good about VICCO TURMERIC Skin Cream :
  • The cream is light yellow in colour and the texture is similar to Fair and Lovely creams.
  • Gives a matte appearance on application and can be easily used oily skin. I have oily T-Zone and dry skin everywhere else. I use it only on my forehead as there were tiny little bumps all over my forehead which refused to heal. The tiny bumps miraculously dried up within 4-5 hours. Let me show you the difference.
Before
After

Can you spot the little darkness that has appeared on the bump? My forehead is almost clear now of loads of these tiny bumps.

This quantity is sufficient for entire face. I use less then half of this quantity on my forehead.

  • Has a pleasant fragrance and won't be a problem for someone with a sensitive nose.
  • Acts as a good makeup base also.
  • Evens out skin tone with regular use.
  • A very small quantity is required for entire face. So a small tube of 15gms can easily last for about 2 months with regular usage.
  • Heals pimples, rashes and other minor skin infections.
  • Price is very less. compared to other acne and pimple creams.
The Bad about VICCO TURMERIC Skin Cream :
  • Contains harmful parabens like Methyl Paraben Sodium and  Propyl Paraben Sodium. The
  • Face feels a bit sweaty after application. Best used at night before going to bed.
  • Not recommended to be used before going out in the sun because it contains a substantial quantity of turmeric which increases sensitivity to sun. Best used at night before going to bed.
  • Does not help dry skin. A separate moisturizer is required to be used for dry skin.
  • Sensitive skin may react to turmeric present in the cream.
That's it. I can't think of any more cons. I think I have found my HG skin cream for pimples, blemishes and acne.

Update : I had done this review after using this cream for 2 weeks. My skin was fine till then and I was very happy with the results of this cream. I did not use any other products other then my regular CTM products. By the end of third week of my using this cream, my skin became horribly dry and flaky. Applying patanjali aloe vera gel or my regular moisturiser gave me a stinging sensation. I came to know that my skin is sensitive to prolonged use of turmeric. Previously, I had applied turmeric once and had felt slight stinging sensation which I ignored.

A word of advice, in case any of you ladies have a skin sensitive to turmeric, don't even go near this cream.

Rinse off and pat skin dry. Can be used daily. Go ahead and get addicted!

I can't agree any less. It pure sinful pleasure for all coffee lovers.

Key Ingredients:
Coffee Extracts, Coffee Powder, Coffee Grits, Vegetable Glycerin, Olive Oil, Creame Base, Aroma and Natural Preservatives

Net Weight :125 ml

Price : Rs. 525

My Take on Natures Co Coffee Scrub
  • The scrub comes in a transparent flip top bottle and you can easily control the quantity and see the amount of product left.
  • Easy to carry as the flip top shuts lightly. I have been carrying it in my bag for a week now and not even a single drop popped out of the squeeze tube.
  • It comes in a squeeze tube and is hygienic to use. No dipping fingers in huge tubs of scrubs. Though this is not much of a hassle for me because I always sanitize my hands before using such products.
  • The fragrance, rather I call it aroma, contains my caffeine addiction. LOL. Whenever, I use it early in the morning, I feel like I just had my cup of coffee to wake me up.After using it, my whole bathroom smells like a coffee cup for some 10-15 minutes.
  • Again, the aroma. I keep on sniffing it 20 times a day. The aroma is just heavenly. Its so hard to resist eating this scrub.
  • My skin does not feel dry and flaky after using it.
  • It has a smooth, creamy texture and the exfoliating coffee beads are abrasive enough to give a squeaky clean feeling. There’s a subtle glow on my skin which stays for sometime. I like my scrubs to a bit abrasive and this one is just perfect.
  • Natures Co products are manufactured using natural preservatives and not the harmful parabens.
What I dint like:
  • The Price – The Scrub is quite expensive for Rs. 525/125ml. It would have hurt a little less if the quantity was 250ml or the price was Rs. 250.
  • I couldn't think of anything else.
Will I repurchase: Yes, Yes Yes. But for that I need to save a lot of money or Natures Co should start giving 50% discounts.

Natures Co products are available in Delhi at Select Citywalk (Saket) and are also available online.

P.S. - Sorry for not posting any pictures of the product or swatches. I don't currently enjoy the possession of a good camera because my brother took the camera for his convocation or something. It would be really juvenile to post pics from a 1.3 megapixel camera.

I also bought Aqua Lily Body Scrub. Reading Blogs is so expensive!!

How to tame your wild wild hair..

Thursday, April 14, 2011

Let me just begin by saying that more then my dry skin, I am a bit obsessed about my hair. I have never coloured or got my hair straightened.  I have been blessed with dry but thick, dense and slightly wavy hair which appear like soft curls when left open.

A small sneak into how my hair actually looks when open. I cant really keep my hair open much.

Well, that’s my hair a few hours after a hair wash. They turn so wavy and twist in every possible direction, (lol) and when you have hair like this, I guess you cant do anything other then keep it tied.
I have recently switched to Patanjali Kesh Kanti cleanser and truly loving it. Works great for my dry hair. Read the review here
Like I said before, my hair is quite dry and I had to generous amount of oil to tame those ugly fly aways and provide moisture for my hair.  Every time after washing my hair, immediately I used to vigorously rub my very wet hair in my attempt to dry them and set them. The extensive rubbing used to make my hair even rougher and give me lot of fly aways. Ugh. Now after reading through numerous blogs about how to take care of dry hair, I realised that I myself was doing it all wrong.
Here are some short tips on how to manage dry hair after a hair wash:
  • After shampoo, use cold water as last rinse if you are using hot or lukewarm water for shampooing your hair. Cold water helps to close cuticles and gives a shine to hair.
  • To get off the excess water dripping from your hair, divide your entire hair into 5-6 sections with your fingers. Very gently twist these sections to drain off the excess water.
  • Wrap a towel on your hair very loosely. The more tightly you tie the towel, more are chances of your hair breaking and entangling. Keep the towel tied on your hair for 1-2 minutes, and not more.My hair feels less frizzy and the flyaways, which I really hate are also less.
  • Remove the towel and let your hair dry naturally for about an hour.
  • When your hair feels almost dry, run a wide toothed comb or your fingers through to detangle the hair.
  • Lastly, I take 4-5 drops of olive oil/almond oil and mix it with 1 teaspoon of water and apply it evenly all over my hair and comb (read tie-up) my hair. (Sighs)
The only hair care regimen that I follow is once a week, I apply oil (olive/almond/coconut) to my hair and leave it overnight.  I even tried experimenting with warm mustard oil but it smells yuck. I couldn’t sleep with mustard oil in my hair.   The best way to use mustard oil for hair is to warm it and leave it for 1-2 hours before hair wash. It’s much more bearable that way .
Hope you found these small tips helpful.

Do share your hair care tips and your HG hair products.
P.S. - Can you suggest some good hair style for my hair? I get my hair cut in steps but I am very much bored of it now. I am growing my now for a 5-6 inches. What do you think..I will be eagerly looking forward to your suggestions.
