Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly Ek, Istamal Anek

Tuesday, January 3, 2012

Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly undergoes a three step purification process which involves hydrogenation and double filtration, thus resulting in the purest form of petroleum jelly. It’s not original, if it’s not “Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly

Thursday, December 29, 2011

Is your skin feeling dry even after applying Vaseline Petroleum jelly? Does it leave your skin looking rough and bruised? So are you using the original Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly? Nowadays the market is flooded with cheap products that look like the original Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly and are available at cheaper prices. But these moisturizers only last for a short time, making the skin drier which can cause more harm than good to your skin.

The Original Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly is a combination of mineral oils, paraffin and microcrystalline waxes, which makes it translucent and gives it a smooth texture. It goes through a three step purification process, which involves hydrogenation to remove chemical purities in the jelly. Further, it undergoes double filtration to remove the finest unwanted particles, thus making it the purest and smoothest form of jelly.
Dry skin is caused by the loss of moisture in the layers of the skin, which happens every second of the day due to exposure to harsh chemicals and rough weather conditions. Fake products use either Glycerine or Menthol, which moisturizes only the top layers of the skin for a short term and eventually leaves your skin dry and dehydrated.

The Original Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly is absorbed rapidly into the skin and provides even moisturization through all three layers of the skin, locking in the skins natural moisture and helping it to repair itself from within naturally. It also forms a protective barrier on the surface of the skin to avoid the damage that is caused by harsh weather and polluted environments, thus resulting in soft and supple skin all day long.  Original Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly is your ultimate skin expert, boasting of multiple skin uses. It’s not just a body moisturizer but can also be used as a night cream, make-up remover, to protect against nappy rash, minor bruises, post shaving etc. to name a few.

Always, buy the Original Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly after testing its four unique identification marks, i.e. the Original Vaseline logo in Blue and Silver, the triple purification seal, the pure skin jelly trademark and the correct spelling “VASELINE”.

The Original Vaseline® Petroleum Jelly is available in three variants across all retail outlets pan India. So rush to your closest outlet to buy the Original Vaseline Petroleum Jelly to get healthy and glowing skin!

Naturally active ingredients include organic aloe vera to revitalise and soften and calendula, chamomile, cucumber and natural source vitamin E to soothe and refresh the skin.

Suitable for all skin types

How to use :
Instant Boost Skin Tonic is the essential second stage of your daily regime:

Moisten a cotton wool pad and sweep over face and neck every morning and night after cleansing with Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser or using one of our special treatment masks. Whether your skin is dehydrated, oily, dull or congested, the nourishing and brightening botanicals will help to leave your skin feeling soft and looking fresh for longer. It also primes your skin perfectly for your choice of Liz Earle Moisturiser.

Alternatively spritz over face and body to revitalise at any time. The fine mist can even be used over make-up.

Ingredients
  • Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis) - The gel found in this cactus-like plant’s fat juicy fronds contain active ingredients to help cool, soothe and soften the skin. Aloe vera has been used for more than 6000 years to treat a variety of skin ailments, including sunburn, blisters and burns.
  • Vitamin E (Tocopherol) - This antioxidant helps protect skin against free radical damage caused by pollution and the sun’s radiation. We only use premium natural-source vitamin E which is up to three times more potent than the synthetic variety.
  • Calendula Extract (Calendula officinalis) - This cheerful plant more commonly known as marigold has a long history of use in traditional medicine. An extract produced from the plant has a calming, soothing effect on the skin.
  • Chamomile Essential Oil/Extract (Anthemis nobilis) - This herb takes its name from the Greek kamai (ground) and melon (apple) because of the sweet apple-like fragrance it releases when trodden on. The essential oil is considered a gentle oil by aromatherapists and medical herbalists have used chamomile for soothing the skin for centuries.
  • Hops Extract (Humulus lupulus) - This herbal extract comes from the pinecone-like fruit of the hop plant and has astringent and toning properties.
  • Cucumber Extract (Cucumis sativus) - Cucumber contains traces of useful nutrients, including potassium, silicon and sulphur. Traditionally used as a compress this refreshing ingredient is calming and soothing.
  • Geranium Essential Oil (Pelargonium graveolens) - These essential oils provide wonderfully uplifting fragrances. Pelargonium odoratissimum has a delicate apple aroma whilst P. graveolens, known as rose-scented geranium has a more powerful rose-like odour. This luxurious oil is most commonly used in aromatherapy for its toning and balancing properties.
  • Glycerin - The glycerin we use is always vegetable derived. It is a humectant (attracts water), drawing atmospheric water onto the skin to aid hydration.
  • D-panthenol  - Otherwise known as pro-vitamin B5, this B vitamin is necessary for the normal functioning of the skin and has a moisturising effect. It also helps stimulate cellular renewal.

 Other Ingredients

Aqua (water), Aloe barbadensis (aloe vera) leaf juice, Glycerin, PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil, Cucumis sativus (cucumber) fruit extract, Calendula officinalis (calendula) flower extract, Anthemis nobilis (chamomile) extract, Humulus lupulus (hops) extract, Panthenol, Allantoin, Tocopherol (vitamin E), Tocopheryl acetate, Parfum (fragrance), Citronellol, Coumarin, Geraniol, Linalool, Sodium hydroxide, Phenoxyethanol, Benzoic acid, Dehydroacetic acid, Ethylhexylglycerin, Polyaminopropyl biguanide.

Liz Earle Instant Skin Boost Tonic

My Experience with Instant Skin Boost Tonic

I have used Instant Skin Boost Tonic for a week now and its a good time to review. Let me tell you a bit about my skin. I have a combination skin, with a very oily T-zone and dry cheeks. After washing my face, my cheeks feel really dry and stretchy and I feel the need to moisturize them even in summers. Before using Instant Skin Boost Tonic, I was using rose water as toner, but it did not provide any hydration to my dry skin areas.

Liz Earle Instant Skin Boost Tonic has a very nice and soothing fragrance, which instantly refreshes in hot and humid summers. It gives a nice subtle and healthy glow to face which we all love. It also provides hydration to my dry cheeks and I don't feel the need to use a moisturizer after using this toner. It is alcohol free and wont dry the skin any further, unlike other toners which contain alcohol. Let me list the good and not so good about it now.

The Good about Liz Earle Instant Skin Boost Tonic

  • Gives a soft and healthy glow to skin instantly.
  • Alcohol free and won't dry out skin, unlike toners which make skin dry and stretchy.
  • Very hydrating and most of the times, I feel like skipping moisturiser after using Instant Skin Boost Tonic.
  • No animal extracts.
  • Paraben Free
  • Very soothing and nice fragrance which makes it a must have toners for summers.
  • Does not leave any oily film or residue.
  • Suitable for all skin types.
  • I am loving it. :-)
The Not so Good about Liz Earle Instant Skin Boost Tonic
  • I wish it was in a spray bottle. That would have reduced wastage because sometimes, when in a hurry, I tilt the bottle and some of the product is wasted. (But I think my way of using toners is to be entirely blamed here. I don't use cotton balls and take a little amount in my hands and apply on face)
  • Spray bottle would have been more travel friendly too.
  • Not available in India.
  • Can be purchased online only.
The Entire Cleanse, Tone and Moisturise Range from Liz Earle.

Tuesday, June 14, 2011
A few days back I Had received a lovely bag of sample products from Makari. It contained these -
  • 2 Makari Whitening Exfoliating Soap of 30 grams/1.05 oz each
  • 2 sachets of Makari Creme Clear - Acnyl Cream
Box containing the Samples

A peep inside the Box

Today I will be reviewing Makari De Suisse Clarifying Exfoliating Antiseptic Soap. I have used this soap for 10 days now. Time for the review.

A soap for face ?? I am surenot many of us would hate the idea of using a soap on delicate facial skin, but Makari De Suisse Clarifying Exfoliating Antiseptic Soap is an exception.

Lets take a closer look at the Soap

Source - Makari Website

About Makari

Makari (pronounced muh-ka-ree) is a premium skin whitening and clarifying brand that was primarily created to fulfil the needs of the coloured population in the US and Europe. The Makari range of products are high end and formulated to work on female as well as male skins. Our skin whitening & clarifying products have been tested by the University of Montpellier for safety and efficacy.

The Makari brand was created about a decade ago by New York based entrepreneur Jack Aini in partnership with a renowned Belgian chemist Maurice Bertrand. It is their partnership that has created Makari, the worlds largest range of skin care products specifically for Whitening and Clarifying. All our products are manufactured as per GMP guidelines (for the pharmaceutical industry) at our facility in Aigle in the Swiss canton of Vaud. Our products adhere to the strictest norms in quality applicable in Europe and the US, which makes us the preferred skin care whitening product in those 2 continents.

People with skin problems such as hyper-pigmentation, melasma, liver spots, age spots, stretch marks etc had to make do with products that either had a very high chemical content to make them effective (and also loaded with harmful side effects) or had formulations that were so mild that they rarely had any effect. Makari was created with a vision to formulate products that were natural, safe and affordable and at the same time very effective.

The main Whitening agent for Makari products is Vegeclarine. Vegeclarine is a 100% natural plant extract and is a very effective skin Whitening and Clarifying agent. Makari also has a range of skin care products that use Caviar Extracts in addition to Vegeclarine to combine the needs of consumers for Whitening and Ageing. Caviar has been proven to reduce the incidence of age and expression lines making the skin plumper, more supple and makes you look younger. Makari products are available at its stores in Paris, Brussels and New York. Our products are also available in over 50 countries worldwide. We hope that you have an enriching experience after using our products.

About Makari Clarifying Exfoliating Soap
Thanks to its natural properties, this Triple action soap helps provide you with the complexion you aspire to. The soap offers an ideal treatment to prepare the skin for the enhanced effectiveness of the entire range of Makari de Suisse Skin Clarifying products.

My Experience with the Makari Soap

I used the soap on my face as well as body. True to its claim, it can be used on all skin types. I have normal to dry body skin whereas my face has a mix and match of different types of skins. My T-zone is very oily and within 30 minutes of washing my face, my nose starts to shine like a disco ball. On the other hand, my cheeks are very dry and need intense hydration even in harsh summers. After using this soap on my face, My dry patches felt only slightly stretchy. A tiny dab of moisturizer and I was happy.

The soap has a very nice fragrance. When I first opened the box, I could smell fragrance even from outside the pouch in which it was placed. The fragrance may be a bit strong for someone with a sensitive nose, but I am not complaining. Coming to the exfoliation part, the exfoliation beads are a bit sparse for me because I like my exfoliating products which have a large quantity of exfoliation. The beads were pretty gentle till first few uses. But after about 6-7 uses, I felt like the beads were quite abrasive and could scratch skin if rubbed strongly.  The best way to use this is to wet your hands and rub soap in between them and then apply on skin. I had tiny bumps on my forehead which were not exactly acne but numerous home remedies and creams  did not cure them. After using this soap, I could see a drastic improvement in texture of skin on my forehead.

The tiny black particles are the exfoliating beads

The good about the Makari De Suisse Clarifying Exfoliating Antiseptic Soap

  • The fragrance is too good. (Heavenly!!) The fragrance feels so refreshing in this hot muggy weather.
  • Can be used on all skin types. The dry patches on my face did not feel extremely dry compared to other soaps (which I used years ago for face)
  • The soap is very mild and did not lead to acne, break outs.
  • The Blackheads on my super oily nose also vanished.
  • I had tiny bumps on my forehead which were not exactly acne but numerous home remedies and creams  did not cure them. After using this soap, I could see a drastic improvement in texture of skin on my forehead.
  • I did not get any new pimples since I have been using this soap.
  • Gives a squeaky clean feeling.
  • The hexagonal shape makes it easier to use.
  • Does not melt much in water.

The BAD about the Makari De Suisse Clarifying Exfoliating Antiseptic Soap
  • Price - The price is a bit too much for a soap.
  • Available only through online.
To buy or not to buy ?
Yes, my only hope is they give 50% discount on all products, so I can stock upon them. :-P

If you want to try Makari products, without burning a hole in your pocket, try their samples bag for just Rs. 300/- The bag contains
  • Two 5 ml sachets of Clarifying Cream
  • Two 5 ml sachets of Anti-Acne Cream
  • One 50 gm Whitening and Exfoliating Soap

Here's what I received from Liz Earle

Naturally active ingredients

Cocoa Butter (Theobroma cacao) - This rich, creamy butter which has moisturising effects on the skin is made from the roasted seeds of the cocoa tree, the same seeds that give us chocolate and cocoa.

Hops Extract (Humulus lupulus) - This herbal extract comes from the pinecone-like fruit of the hop plant and has astringent and toning properties.

Rosemary Essential Oil/Extract (Rosmarinus officinalis) - This renowned and once sacred herb has been used for centuries in beauty preparations. Rosemary essential oil has a fresh pungent aroma and is very invigorating and stimulating. The extract has beneficial antioxidant properties.

Chamomile Essential Oil/Extract (Anthemis nobilis) - This herb takes its name from the Greek kamai (ground) and melon (apple) because of the sweet apple-like fragrance it releases when trodden on. The essential oil is considered a gentle oil by aromatherapists and medical herbalists have used chamomile for soothing the skin for centuries.

Eucalyptus Essential Oil (Eucalyptus globulus) - Native to Australia, eucalyptus shoots are a favourite food of the koala. The cooling essential oil produced from the leaves and twigs has decongestant properties and is used by aromatherapists to ease muscular aches and pains.

D-panthenol - Otherwise known as pro-vitamin B5, this B vitamin is necessary for the normal functioning of the skin and has a moisturising effect. It also helps stimulate cellular renewal.

Glycerin - The glycerin we use is always vegetable derived. It is a humectant (attracts water), drawing atmospheric water onto the skin to aid hydration.

Beeswax (Cera alba) - The beeswax used in Naturally Active Skincare comes from the honeycombs in which bees store their pollen. It has skin protecting properties and helps to relieve chapped skin.

Cleansing - The Cleanser and Muslin Cloth
My take on Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser

  • I don’t wear makeup everyday, but to try its claim on removing stubborn makeup, I used it on my long stay lip colors. Needless to say, all the colours vanished in one single swipe.
  • Cleanser has a very refreshing eucalyptus fragrance.
  • After using the cleanser for only about a week, my skin looks more clearer. Previously, I used to think that deep cleansing is required only if one uses substantial amount of makeup everyday. I was so wrong!! The dirt, pollution, sweat form an invisible layer on the skin. Well, the first time I used this cleanser, I could not believe my eyes on seeing how much grime was there on my face, more on my oily T-zone.
  • The Blackheads on my oily T-zone, nose and forehead, have almost vanished.
  • A very little quantity, about a coin sized amount is required for entire face and neck. I was sent a 30ml sample tube and there is still a lot of cleanser left, which i think will last for another 5-6 days.
  • Leaves skin feeling smooth, squeaky clean and glowing. It works as an instant facial cleansing for me.
  • No oily feeling after cleansing with the cloth. Girls, you don’t have to be scared of using this in summers. After cleansing, my skin does not feel oily or sweaty.
  • My dry cheeks do not feel dry after cleansing. Most of the times, after cleansing I (purposely :-D) forget to moisturize my face, which is not so with normal cleansers and face washes.
  • The  pure muslin cloths are to be used gently and provide nice exfoliation for skin.
There is nothing which I don't like about this cleanser, except that it is not available in India. :-( But, I have found a solution for that too. My cousin, who happens to live in United Kingdom. :-P So, whenever, she decides to visit me, I know what to ask for.

A big thanks to the lovely Ms. Andrea Kengelbacher of Liz Earle for sending such a wonderful product for review. Visit Liz Earle here. Do read some more reviews about the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser here.

Cetaphil Gentle Cleanser - Review

Saturday, May 14, 2011
I recently got hold of this wonderful cleanser, which is definitely on its way to become my HG face cleanser. During my teens I used to have oily skin but since past 2-3 years, I have noticed that my skin has turned more into combination skin type, i.e. very oily on T-ZONE and dry on cheeks and rest of my face. I actually came to know that my skin is combination type after reading a lot of blogs. Before I always used to think that my skin was oily. :-P. My skin has become dry to the extent that even during scorching summers of Delhi, I at times feel the need to apply a thick cream like Vaseline Total Moisture 24 hour moisturizing cream. The effect lasts only for 5-6 hours after which I need to reapply. So during my search for a non-drying cleanser, a lot of my friends recommended Cetaphil Cleanser, which is especially for sensitive skin. I have been using this for past 2 weeks now and I think it’s the appropriate time for a review.

What the Website says:
Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser is great for daily makeup removal. Originally formulated for dermatologists, this cleanser is gentle on your skin and sensitive to your skin’s needs. Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser will not strip the skin of natural protective oils or emollients, or disturb the skin’s natural pH balance. Recommended for years by dermatologists, it is fragrance-free and non-comedogenic. Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser is gentle enough for children, teens and adults. Suitable for: All skin types, infants, eczema, acne, rosacea & psoriasis. Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser is gentle enough for children, teens and adults.

What the product claims:
Originally developed by dermatologists especially for sensitive skin, Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is a soap substitute that preserves your skin’s natural protective oils. Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser softens your skin as it gently cleanses. Independent clinical tests using Cetaphil® Gentle Skin Cleanser undiluted has shown it to be one of the gentlest non-soap cleansers. Its special formulation won’t sting your eyes and can remove light make-up without clogging pores. Developed to be used with or without water, Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser is pH balanced and lanolin and fragrance free. Suitable for: All skin types, infants, eczema, acne, rosacea & psoriasis.

Suitable for: All skin types

Ingredients:
Water, Cetyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Stearyl Alcohol, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Butylparaben

How I Use:
I don’t use any makeup and the only thing that is there on my face at the end of the day is dust and grime. :-P. So I cannot say much about its claim for makeup removal. I use it like any other face wash. Take a small amount, about a 50 paise coin and apply on my face like a normal face wash. Rinse off with plenty of water. It can also be applied on face and then wiped off with cotton or wash cloth.

The Good:
  • It is very gentle yet very effective too. My face feels fresh and clean without any dry and stretchy feeling.
  • Can be used on acne prone skin or sensitive skin.
  • Very suitable for people with dry skin or combination skin. I have combination skin and it works very well.
  • No added fragrance and it is non-comedogenic (Means it will not produce or aggravate acne.)
  • Price, a very good product at a very affordable price. Available for Rs. 110 for 120 ml
  • Can be used on eczematous, xerotic skin and sunburnt skin.

The Not so Good:
  • The packaging which looks like a bottle of some medicine. I would have loved the packaging with a bit of more colour.
  • I somehow don’t find this bottle easy to carry even though its not very big in size. I would have preferred a flip top squeeze tube which would be easier to carry.
  • It claims to prevent acne but I am not fully satisfied on this part. 2-3 times in a month, I get these breakouts like spots on my forehead which appear to be under a layer of skin. They look like a small and swollen spot without a pimple head. No improvement in such breakouts, but 2 weeks is very less time to notice any improvement.
  • Gives a light chemical smell.
  • It is meant for sensitive skin but may not be of much use to oily skin.
  • Contains parabens and all ingredients are chemicals.
Verdict:
I will purchase it again for obvious reasons. It really helped to provide relief my dry skin. I am on the lookout for their body wash now but can’t find it anywhere.

P.S. - Blogger has been misbehaving again since past few days. So just wanted to remind you all to export your blogs to the HDD. :-)
